GMAT – Graduate Management Admission Test
GMAT is conducted by the ACT, to be taken by the students who want to pursue their Master in Management or Business oriented studies. It basically measures one's verbal, quantitative & analytical skills, it is conducted throughout the year. GMAT is not only mandatory in USA Business schools but even taken into consideration at many other Business schools in UK, Australia, Canada etc.
SAT – Scholastic Assessment Test
The US - based College Board conducts SAT. This is most widely taken standardized written test in US for undergraduate admissions. SAT tests Critical Reading, Quantitative & Writing skills; SAT is conducted 6 times a year on specific dates. Besides, SAT - I sometimes a student may be required to write SAT-2 as demanded by few institutions for the specialized courses in Biology, Chemistry, Zoology, and Physics etc.
GRE – Graduate Record Examination
GRE is conducted by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), to be taken by the students who want to apply for any Masters level courses related to Technical, Science, Art etc. It is not required for management, law or medicine fields. It basically measures one's verbal, quantitative & analytical skills. It is conducted throughout the year. Besides, the General GRE, sometimes, a student may be required to take up subject GRE too if demanded by the Institution for specialized courses like History, Physics, Biology etc.
TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language
The TOEFL is conducted by ETS. TOEFL assesses the English Language Proficiency of the people whose native language may not be English. This is a mandatory exam for Indian students who go to USA and Canada for undergraduate and post-graduate studies. In addition, some government agencies, professional agencies, professional agencies & scholarship programs may require TOEFL Scores. One can retake TOEFL once per calendar month.
IELTS – International English Language Testing System
IELTS is conducted by BCL & IDP. IELTS tests the complete range of English Language skills. Accepted by most foreign corporate & govt. bodies. Even the immigrants are required to give this exam to be eligible for immigration. Candidates are tested in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. It is mandatory if one wish to study in Australia and the scores are accepted by 500 US Universities & universities in UK, Canada, New Zealand, Dubai, Singapore etc.
